Alive Outside Duathlon: Results & Photos

January’s snow which stopped the first Alive Outside Duathlon was but a memory on this mild, but damp morning. In the main race Niall Sommers (Belpark) led from the gun to finish. Meanwhile it was Kitty Perle’s (3dtri) bike speed which allowed her to overcome the faster runners.

Niall Sommers (Belpark) & Niall O'Briain-55-(Belpark) made their intensions clear from the start

Sommers opened up an early lead. His recent 2:53 marathon doesn't appear to have taken away any of his speed.

O'Briain on the right looked comfortable sitting in 3rd spot on the first run.

Valerie Fenton (3dtri) pushed the pace on the first run to lead the women into transition.

Sarah Lane (Belpark) was 3rd on the first run.

Kitty Perle (3dtri) was a close 4th into transition, but looked relaxed and in control.

Sommers cemented his lead on the bike leg.

Tennant moved up from 5th on the first run to 2nd place by the second lap of the bike.

O'Briain tried to limit the gap opening up beteen himself and Tennant.

Perle had taken the lead in the opening 2km on the bike. A position she was not to give up.

Lane's rapid transition had allowed her to move up into 2nd place, but she drifted back into 4th by T2.

After a causious start on the bike, Fenton made her way back up to 2nd by T2.

Ultra runner Grainne Connor took her time in transition, dropping back to 4th, but made her way up to 3rd over the bike leg.

Sommers simply extended his lead on the final run leg.

Tennant's (No. 71) 20sec lead off the bike was eaten into by fast finishing O'Briain.

Perle looked comfortable on the final run on her way to her first victory.

Connor ran her way into 2nd spot on the final run.

Fenton finished 3rd. She wasn't able to repeat her opening run speed, so got passed by Connor in the final kilometer.

Meanwhile Lane held on for 4th.

The novice duathlon was up next.
