Ashford ‘The Rock’ Duathlon
Local favorite Noelie Kavanagh (Wicklow Tri) pulled away on the bike to take his first win of the year, just in time for WAR next weekend. Eilis Connery (Belpark) picked up her 3rd win this year. In fact Connery was 7th overall, showing that she’s one to watch in the National Duathlon Champs on the 25th

The sunshine brough out the summer speed merchants yesterday, with Ryan Montgomery (Winning Solutions), Bren Smith (Belpark), Nolie Kavanagh (Wicklow Tri), Mark Horan (Pulse) and Eilis Connery (Belpark) setting the opening pace.
The opening 5km saw a 3 man breakaway form.
with local favorite Kavanagh intent on leading from start to finish, with Ryan Montgomery sitting on his heels.
Bren Smith (Belpark), who won this race last September was just beind the leading pair.
Pulse's Mark Horan was 20seconds back at T1, ideally placed to put in a strong bike leg. Scott Graham was just behind Horan coming into T1.

Eilis Connery (Belpark) was in 7th place overall entering T1.
Deirdre O'Toole (Belpark) in 2nd place, looking to improve on her 3rd spot at the recent Sportsman Duathlon in Dundalk.
Helen French (Belpark) in 3rd place after the first run, making it look like the Belpark women might own the podium.
Geraldine Hendricken in 4th place after the first 5km run.

Fionualla Ni Bradhaigh (Bray Wheelers) was 6th coming off the first run, but her cycling ability would have her climbing into contention.
For some the race finished too soon.
Kavanagh opened up a winning margin on the windy bike course.
Horan moved from 4th up to 2nd over the bike leg.
Smith pushed hard to hold Horan at the end of the cycle.

David Coyle had moved up to 5th spot on the bike.

Scott Graham in 6th place coming off the bike.

A week long cycling holiday stopped Montgomery's chances of making an impression on the bike leg.
Connery had fallen back into the mid teens overall on the bike but still comfortably led the women's race.
O'Toole was 2nd into T2, but Ni Bradhaigh was rapidly closing in on her.
French was passed by Ni Bradhaigh, but held onto 4th spot on the bike.
There was no stopping Kavanagh as he only extended his lead on the final 5km run.
Horan initially looked like he had done too much on the bike, but easily held off Smith to take 2nd place.
Smith raced out of T2 after Horan, but cramps stopped that plan in it's tracks. He still held on for 3rd spot.
The battle for 4th spot. Graham, leads Montgomery and Coyle 20m back.
With the finish in sight Mongomery (right) moved level with Graham (left). It was hot out there, but Montgomery's outfit was close to Borat style!!!

Connery ran through the field over the final 5km to finish 8th overall and easily win the women's race.
O'Toole sprints for the line to hold onto her 2nd place.
Ni Bradhaigh briefly overtook O'Toole in the final kilometer, but had to settle for 3rd after the fast finishing O'Toole.
French (Belpark) held onto 4th spot in her first ever duathlon.
