Wheelworx Naas Duathlon (April)- Report & Results

It’s Good Friday, so penance was the order of the day. The weather gods duly obliged with cold, wind and rain. This final race in the Naas Duathlon Series would also decide the overall series winners.

Joe Lynch (Pulse) dominated the bike course to set himself up for the win.

Bronagh Ni Bhriain (Wheelworx) pulled away on the bike to take today's win as well as the series title.

Adam Speer (Tri 24/7) used his run strength to secure 2nd place and the overall series title with one win and two second spots.

How it unfolded.

Leading into transition were Aubrey Storey (left) who was using this as a warm up to the Gorey 3-day tomorrow!!! and Adam Speer (right).

The main contenders in the men's field were next (L to R): Shane Scully (Neangh Tri club), Kevin Donagher (Belpark), Joe Lynch (Pulse Tri Club).

Martin Kirwin (Waterford Triathlon Club) who won the recent Spokes Duathlon was 8th into T1.

Ni Bhriain led the women into T1.

But Aoife Lynch was tracking her all the way.

Mary Daly was 3rd off the first run.

Kim Hickey was 4th into T1.

Deirdre Hough in 5th spot after the first run.

Lynch put a minute into everybody else in the field to open up a large gap by T2.

Speer was comfortable in 2nd place.

Scully ran past Tennant coming out of T2 and held on to take 3rd place.

Tennant had moved up into 3rd spot on the bike, but was working hard to hold off the fast runners.

Donagher eyeing up Tennant, but ran out of road to overtake him, so had to settle for 5th this time.

Kirwin in 6th spot.

NiBhriain with a comfortable lead off the bike went on to take this race and the series victory.

Lynch was caught by Daly coming into T2, but a fast transition allowed her to exit transition first.

Daly biked up into 2nd spot but (freezing) cold hands slowed down her transition and gave Lynch the advantage.

Deirdre Hough finished in 5th place.

Kim Hickey in red and 6th position coming out of T2 ran herself into 4th place.
