It came down to a finish line sprint between two Belpark club mates in Saturday’s West Wicklow Roar. John Caffrey & Niall Sommers traded places a number of times over the day. Caffrey excelled on the bike and kayak sections, while Sommers was the strongest on the hill runs. In the end it was Caffrey’s sprint which left Sommers to finish only 7 seconds behind in this 3hour plus race.
In the women’s race, the former mountain bike olympian Jenny McCauley got the better of Beth McCluskey on the final hill run, with Derval Devaney in close 3rd position.
