Groomsport (National Long Course Championships)

Congratulation to Brian Campbell (Hi-Elbow) and Aoife Lynch (Pulse Tri) for winning the Irish Triathlon long course championships and despite the politics of the race, they should be respected as the talented national champions that they are. However this championships will be remembered for who wasn’t there more than who was there.

Lets start with the men’s and women from last years championships. None of the top 10 men from last years championships were at Groomsport. None of the top 5 women from last years championships were at Groomsport.

Next let’s move onto the Irish Athletes who’ve qualified for the World Ironman championships at Hawaii. None of the four Irish based triathletes who qualified were at Groomsport (obviously Tara in Aus is not expected to travel). Then at those who’ve qualified for the World 70.3 Ironman championships. Again none were at Groomsport.

In short it was even worse that what I had suggested here last week. It just leaves me sad.
