The race in Gavin’s words
“Hi Everyone,
A quick update to say I finished 7th yesterday in Toscaloosa ITU Premium Cup – the race also doubled as the US National Campionsips. I lost my timing chip somewhere along the route and so the results are currently being updated.

Ill admit I was a little nervous going in – I have been training hard under new Coach Cris Jones in the past 3 weeks but much of the work was carried out alone in Scotland – it is often hard to guage how ‘you are going’ without that competition in training. It being US National Champs and most of the guys still at their peak so soon after World Champs it was always going to be a tough first day back at the International office.
I swam with the leaders and towards the end of the bike I attacked the main group – a small breakaway joined me with 5km to go and we led into transition 2 – my attack and efforts on the bike in hindsight were not a good idea in the 37 degree heat – I paid a price for that on the first 5km of the run. I still lack maybe a little bit of race fitness but that will come in te next few weeks.
Overall though I am happy enough. It is great to be back racing internationally.
I fly this morning from Alabama to California and will prepare for Huatulco World Cup in Mexico at Specialized HQ in Morgan Hill – I am really looking forward to my time there.
Back at home in Ireland, my Campionsystem race kit is on show at Trizone.ie – thanking them for their support when I was racing at home recently and my 2 Irish Championsip titles.
Thanks again for your support
