Results & photos from today’s Sportsman Duathlon in Dundalk, which was the 3rd race in Setanta Tri Club’s race series.
Paul Carroll (Olympia Tri) continued his trend of leading out the first run, opening a comfortable lead by T1. It was surprising to see Bryan McCrystal (Setanta Tri) come into T1 in 15th place, it showed that his bike training for the RAS was effecting his normally running form.

However it took him a little over 5km on the bike to go from 15th to 1st, showing that his devastating cycling strength has only improved. Paul Carroll showed how much his cycling has improved by holding onto 2nd place on the bike, where he finished. The other big mover on the cycle leg was Stephen Harkens (Team Madigan), who moved up into 3rd spot during the last section of the cycle and held on to finish 3rd overall.
In the women’s race, it was mainly between the winner of the January race; Judith Lowry and local favorite Mary Laverty (Setanta Tri). Mary opened a small lead on the first run, but used her strong cycle to create a one minute lead going into the second run.
Distances: 3.2km run, 17km cycle, 3.2km run.
