One of Irelands top professional triathletes, Cork man Bryan Keane will be in Trinity to talk about “all things tri and his little life in the sport”.

Bryan has represented Ireland in cross country running and was a professional cyclist for 2 years before turning his attention to triathlon. His top performance was coming 1st in the Athlone ITU Triathlon European Cup in 2009, but in the past few months he has been working on coming back after serious injuries from being knocked off his bike in a car crash. He writes a very entertaining blog so he’ll surely have some great stories to tell!

Anyone who is interested in triathlon is welcome, so whether you would like to take up the sport, get some training tips, or some motivation to get training, come along and bring your friends!

Gavin Noble update.

Gavin Noble in Spainish training camp

Gavin Noble in Spainish training camp

In a week’s time I will be packing my bags for Australia to begin my 2011 race programme in the Mooloolaba ITU World Cup on March 27th. I will then move on the Sydney for the first of the World Championship Series races and also take in Ishigaki World Cup on April 17th to complete a short ‘around the world’ adventure.

I have had a consistent winters training and I leave Spain today to make my final preparations in Stirling. I was also here in Spain over Christmas for 5 weeks and I returned here again with the Irish Elite team 2 weeks ago. In between th 2 Spanish camps I raced the Scottish Cross Country Championships helping my Central Athletics Team to their first ever Senior Men’s title – admittedly I was the 6th and final counter in the team (!) but still played my part – cross country running is not my favourite way to spend an afternoon in Scotland but it was worthwhile.

This year I have teamed up with Base2race (www.base2race.ie) which is a new triathlon concept store in Dublin and also TYR wetsuits – I visited them in Janurary and I am very excited to be a part of their venture into the Irish Triathlon Market. The store has an endless pool for swim correction and training, dedicated biomechanical analyses and an on site nutritionist – and of course some of the best swim/bike/run brands available:

I have attached some recent photographs and I also have an online flickr account which you can access for some high res photos from my training in Spain :

Gav's new tri suit

As part of new ITU requirements Triathlon Ireland have had to create an elite team suit (also attached) which satisfied the various criteria and individual needs of the members of the elite squad. These suits have only to be worn in all World Championship Series events – they will be unbranded apart from one dedicated sponsor area for Triathlon Ireland – this is likely to be Vodafone. The ‘mock up’ I have attached is the basic outline for the suit – mine will include Champion System, Lucozade and Specialized sponsor logos. In all other World Cups and international races I will wear my own Champion System suit (also attached) and I will also have a domestic race suit for national and non ITU events.

At the weekend I raced in the Fuente Alamo Duathlon – attached is a photo of how that ended – that is all I have to say about that !

I have had a great training block and although I am not feeling fast yet, I am feeling strong. It has been my first winter’s training with Irish Coach Chris Jones and our team which includes cycling specialist Tommy Evans, Strength and Conditioning coach Martina McCarthy and physio Deidre Burrell.

2011 will once again be a long season but I am looking forward to getting it started . . .

thanks once again for all your support
