2Wheels.ie HellFire Adventure Duathlon – Dublin Mountains – 2011

Results & Photos from tonight’s 2Wheels.ie HellFire Adventure Duathlon in the Dublin Mountains.  The first stage was a 3km run over the HellFire summit, then a 17km very hill cycle up the Kilakee Road and past Cruagh Woods and the Pine Forest, but repeating the run over the HellFire summit for the final stage.

The serious climb starts only 300m into the first run, so those with ambition were quickly to the fore.

WAR Glendalough winner Noelie Kavanagh (Base2Race/Wicklow Tri) leads up the first climb, with the current Duathlon Series leader Niall Somers (Belpark) and last years HellFire winner Aaron O'Donohue just behind.

Aaron & Niall worked well together to open a gap on Noelie on the first lap of the hilly cycle, but Aaron soon escaped from Niall, while Noelie closed the gap on Niall over the final climb into transition.

The second run was all about Noelie, he put a minute into everyone else to take the win and was only 15 seconds slower than his first run.

Kim Hickey (Pulse Tri) moved into 2nd place on the run and held onto this ahead of last month’s 2nd place finisher Laura Flynn (Rathfarnham WSAF) who had a real battle to hold off Helen Keane for 3rd place.
