Today’s Pulse Clogherhead Sprint Triathlon in Co. Louth became a duathlon with a 2.5km run, 20km cycle and 5km run.

Aaron o Brien was first in from the opening 2.5 k run, with Mike Yvelerton (Planet-Tri/Limerick Tri) in close persuit. However it all changed on the bike, where Kevin Keane (Belpark/Wheelworx) and Bill McCormack (Belpark) came to the front. Kevin finished with the better run, but a 1min penality gave the win to Bill, with Yelverton in 3rd place.

750 m goes missing from the swim for 2 weeks in a row pity abouit our windy weather
Water didnt seem to bad and my friends were up for fun in the surf but drifting swim bouys seemed to cause the change.
Feel sorry for a friendly club though a very profitablr race but not really a nat series location.
No showers 4 portaloos a couple of beach toilets for 400 entries never mind helpers and supporters
To many athletes for a fair sprint race and no facilites nearby.
Sad lack of TI draft marshalls for a nat series and qualifying race so cheaters everywhere
Probably better as a smaller race of a 100 or so
respectfully I disagree with some of Kate’s comments but do agree with others:
re the decision to cancel the swim, I think the correct decision (to cancel) was made. Some friends of mine (strong swimmers) who were all up for the swim before the race and very were disappointed with the decision to cancel it, went swimming after the race, after which they unanimously agreed that the right decision had been made – that the surf/conditions were not suitable for racing.
as for the venue generally and the set-up, I really like the course and think that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the venue as a nat series location. personally I prefer being “in the middle of nowhere”
but would agree that (1) there was an insufficient number of portaloos, (2) there appeared to be crazy amounts of drafting, especially on the part long section of the course into the wind
to be fair to the organisers though, with the swim cancelled, they were forced to set the waves off very close time-wise (3 min intervals) so that the 3rd wave would be on its wave before the leaders of the first wave were returning to the transition. this was probably a contributing factor to the crowding on the bike course
