The fog was remincent of last year’s first Naas Duathlon and Bronagh Ni Bhriain duly repeated her victory. However it was Bjorn Ludick who topped a very strong men’s field.

London is the largest Duathlon in the world with over 2,000 competitors, so for Ireland’s David Vaughan & Eilis Connery to win the Ultra Duathlon is a huge achievement. Caterine Walsh has won Ireland’s first gold at the ITU World Duathlon Championships in Edinburgh. Cat and her pilot Francine Meehan won the Cat 6 classification for visually impaired athletes. All change for the new decade at the Irish Duathlon Championships in Donegal. In fact nobody who had won a duathlon championships in the last ecade even made it onto the podium. Local favorite Noelie Kavanagh (Wicklow Tri) pulled away on the bike to take his first win of the year, just in time for WAR next weekend. Eilis Connery (Belpark) picked up her 3rd win this year. Initial results are in from the final Limerick duathlon of 2010. This race was a qualification race for the european and world championships, so competition was expected to be very high.

Snow was the order of the day. It caused the cancellation of the Wheelworx Naas Duathlon, but couldn’t stop Limerick Triathlon Club’s Duathlon. Niall Collins (Limerick Triathlon) improved on his 5th position in race one to add yet another Limerick Duathlon win to his trophy cabinet. Eilis Connery (Belpark Tri Club) led from start to finish to improve on her 3rd position in Naas earlier this month.

The tri season kicked off today with the first of the Wheelworx Naas Duathlon Series races. Freezing fog was the order of the day, with visability no more than 30m in places.
