Results and photos from today’s Duathlon in punchestown, which is the first of the Trax Brasserie Duathlon Series organised by Naas tri Club.

Alex Donald imporved on his second place in race 1 to take today’s victory. The double 2010 Irish Triathlon champion Aoife Lynch (Pulse Tri) opened up her 2011 with a close win over Bronagh Ni Bhriain (Wheelworx).

The Wheelworx crew had an early morning drive down to the Punchestown Racecourse for the second race in the Wheelworx Duathlon Series run by Naas Triathlon Club. The sun was shining bright and there was a little nudge from the cross wind on the drive, this was a sign of things to come for the race. The competitors started arriving in to transition in a timely fashion many of whom cradling cups of coffee in a bid to warm up in the chill of the morning. It wouldn’t be long before everyone would be peeling off layers as the race got under way!

The fog was remincent of last year’s first Naas Duathlon and Bronagh Ni Bhriain duly repeated her victory. However it was Bjorn Ludick who topped a very strong men’s field.

The qualifying race for the 2011 European duathlon Championships due to take place in Punchestown this coming Sunday 12th Dec has been postponed till December 19th due to poor weather and surface conditions.
