What a difference a week makes. Last weekend Kevin Keane (Belpark/Wheelworx) was 4th at the Irish Triathlon Champs, since then he has two victories and in the process beaten the top two from last week Irish champs. On Wednesday, Kevin won the Formula 1 Duathlon ahead of the new Irish champion Joe Lynch (Pulse). Today he sprinted to victory in the Brian Boru sprint triathlon, leaving last weeks runner up Shane Scully in 4th place.
Amy Wolfe (Cork) was the clear winner in the women’s Irish Olympic distance triathlon championships. She lead from the gun. It was a close battle for 2nd spot with Aoife Lynch (Base2Race/Pulse triathlon club) only assuring her place on the run from Jennifer Duffy (Piranha triathlon). in the mix were former multiple Irish Champion Anne Paul (Triangle) and Deirdre O’Toole (Belpark).
Local favorite Shane Scully from Nenagh Tri Club won his club’s North Tipp Sprint today. Shane caught Bill McCormack (Belpark) in the final two kilometers of the run. Results from today’s Try-Laois, organised by Trilogy triathlon club.. Shane Scully (Nenagh Tri) repeated his 2009 victory by winning today’s Try-Laois, having finished 3rd here last year. Breda Daly won the women’s race by almost 3mins.
The first ever Clonmel Duathlon took place today the 20th March, in what was perfect weather for the event.
The race route challenged athletes to a scenic 4km run followed by a 22km bike and then a final a 4km run.
It’s Good Friday, so penance was the order of the day. The weather gods duly obliged with cold, wind and rain. This final race in the Naas Duathlon Series would also decide the overall series winners. Initial results are in from the final Limerick duathlon of 2010. This race was a qualification race for the european and world championships, so competition was expected to be very high.
